Italian short sword of Piedmont Pattern 1859 type. Ribbed brass hilt with cross guard of ‘Gladius pattern’ with steel tang nut to the top. Double edged 17 ½” blade with Crowned TA to the left side and manufacturers inspection mark to the right. Typical of the short swords widely issued throughout Europe during the 19th century these were effective both as weapons in combat and for use around camp to chop firewood etc. In good condition with nice sharp grip with some dents to the left side and a good well marked blade. A scarce Italian short sword.
