.303” Martini Enfield rifle by WW Greener with Volunteer Pattern 1888 knife bayonet. MkIII Martini action with small cocking indicator to the right side is stamped to the left WW GREENER MAKER BIRMINGHAM, the action and block struck with Birmingham commercial proof marks. Walnut stock with iron butt plate and finger grooves to the forend. Patch to the left side where the old dial sight has been removed during its working life. Regulation pattern iron furniture Inc nose cap with bayonet bar to take the regulation pattern 1888 bayonet. Enfield rifled nitro proved barrel with ramp foresight has ladder rear sight graduated to 1800 yards. Complete with its commercial pattern 1888 knife bayonet with rivet retained wooden grip scales and double edged spear point blade. Made to the regulation Ordnance pattern of the day for sale to target shooters and volunteer soldiers the .303” Martini was a strong and accurate weapon which saw service all over the empire for many years with volunteer and second line military units. In good condition with good bore and mechanics, nice sharp wood with well executed patch to the forend and original blue finish fading to brown grey with age. A typical Volunteer Martini of the 1890’s by one of the best known of the Birmingham makers.
