.577” Pattern 1856 two band rifle by Holland and Son with Damascus twist London proofed barrel. Border engraved Pattern 1853 lock signed to the front of the hammer HOLLAND & SON, the plate lightly pitted across the front half. Walnut stock chequered to the wrist is fitted with regulation pattern brass furniture and two common P56 barrel bands. Browned three groove Minnie rifled Damascus steel barrel is fitted with a ladder rear graduated to 950 yards and is struck to the breech with Victorian London proof marks. Made to the basic two band Enfield short rifle pattern by the famous London maker Holland for sale to a volunteer soldier or target shooter this rifle features refinements over the military arm including a chequered stock and a Damascus steel barrel. In good condition with a nice sharp stock, much brown finish to the barrel and good mechanics. Good bore with strong rifling but with scattered light pitting along the length. An interesting variant of the military P56 two band rifle by one of the best known London makers of the time.
