An exceptionally rare .303” P14 three hundred meter, three positional, match rifle made for the Great Britain rifle team by John Knott and used at the 1948 London Olympics. Complete with a spare left handed thumb hole stock. Winchester made P14 action fitted with a Parker Hale 5B match rear sight and set match ‘double’ trigger. Custom made six piece thumb hole laminated stock with hooked adjustable butt plate and wooden grip / ball fixed to the under side of the magazine plate for standing shooting. Nitro proofed .303” heavy weight match barrel by BSA is stamped over the chamber with BSA piled arms trade marks and SPECIAL BSA BARREL .303” MKVII CARTRIDGE to the front of that. The front of the barrel fitted with a Parker Hale aperture front sight. The spare stock of the same pattern as the one fitted to the gun but in a left handed configuration. Built by John Knott for the Great Britain team it is believed that about eight of these rifles made for the team. One complete gun and parts of another are on display in the NRAs museum at Bisley and this is the only left hand stock known at present. The whereabouts of the other six guns not being known to the NRA at present. Interestingly the stock had to be made up of six pieces as there were no large walnut blanks available in the UK at the time after the war, the stocks being made by a company that had made the wooden wings of Mosquito fighter bombers during the war. Unfortunately the British turned out in tweeds and began practicing two weeks before the Olympic shoot but Emil Grunig, the famous Swiss rifle maker turned up with a 7.5mm rifle and purpose designed shooting jackets etc and went on to win with a score of 1121 Ex 1200. In very good condition with excellent bore and good stock. Most original finish to the metal work and good sights. A possibly unique chance to own one of the rifles used in the 1948 post war Olympics in the year of the 2012 London Olympics.
