WW2 Italian issue 6.5X52mm Mannlicher Carcano model 1891 bolt action cavalry carbine with folding bayonet. Front locking bolt action with stripper clip fed six round en block magazine and bolt mounted safety catch. Walnut stock with regulation pattern steel furniture has white parade ground sling fitted to the left side. Barrel fitted with tangent rear sight graduated to 1500 meters and wind driftable front sight has a folding triangular section spike bayonet to the underside. Regulation issue weapon of the Italian forces from the Great War until the end of WW2 the Mannlicher fired a very flat shooting 6.5mm round which while accurate did lack knock down power compared to the German 8mm rounds and the British .303” at the time. None the less the carbine was a handy any reliable weapon well liked by the troops who carried it. After the Italians surrendered to the allies thousands of these little carbines and the rifles were taken to Germany where they became the most common rifle issued to the German Volkssturm (Home Guard) in the closing stages of the war. In good condition with very good bore and mechanics, nice stock and modern Birmingham proof marks. An interesting little carbine not often seen on the market today.
