An approx ½” (.520”) percussion man stopper single barrel overcoat pistol by Bentley of Liverpool.

£795

An approx ½” (.520”) percussion man stopper single barrel overcoat pistol by Bentley of Liverpool. Scroll engraved box lock action with bunn nut retained dolphin hammer to the right side and large ring trigger guard to the underside to allow use with gloved hands. Finely chequered walnut ‘Bag Shaped’ grips with vacant white metal shield to the rear. Heavy octagonal smooth bore barrel with full length under rib and swivel rammer is signed to the top flat BENTLEY LIVERPOOL with brass stud front sight and standing V notch rear. Birmingham commercial proof mark to the left flat. A typical self defence pistol of the early percussion age designed to be carried concealed in an overcoat pocket but delivering the heavy blow of a full sized ½” calibre military ball should the need arise. In good condition with good bore and mechanics, nice clean grips with chequering slightly rubbed from use / carrying in pocket, and metal work to a pleasing brown finish with age. A good example of a typical Victorian self defence traveling pistol by a good provincial retailer.
