A fine .32-40” Winchester Model 1885 Hi Wall single shot falling block rifle. Blued Hi Wall action with spurred hammer and trigger guard / operating lever to the underside is engraved WINCHESTER TRADE MARK below patent dates to the tang, with Winchester factory proof to the receiver ring. Walnut stock with crescent butt plate and forend with inset horn tip. Octagonal No.3 weight barrel with buckhorn rear and flip over blade / hooded globe foresight is engraved to the left flat MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN USA PATENTED OCTOBER 7 1879 with calibre 32-40” to the breech next to Winchester factory proof mark. One of the all time classic rifles designed by John Browning the 1885 was a very strong and accurate action which was available in numerous calibres from .22” rim fire up to .500” nitro express and is still in production to this day. The .32-40” was one of the most accurate rounds developed in the black powder days being widely used as a target round as well as for use on medium soft skinned game such as deer. In very good / fine condition with sharp stock and excellent mechanics, much original blue finish to the barrel and action and a good bore with some erosion to the first few inches of the leed. A nice example of a classic Browning designed rifle.
