A good .32-40” Winchester 1894 under lever rifle with full length magazine and crescent butt. Iron 1894 action with loading gate to the right side and cocking lever to the bottom is engraved to the tang MODEL 1894 WINCHESTER PAT.AUG.21 1894. Walnut butt with steel crescent butt plate and fore end with steel nose cap. 26” round barrel with full length tube magazine beneath retains much of its original blue finish with buck horn rear and windage driftable blade front sight is roll engraved to the left side MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21 1894. The breech struck with Winchester factory proofs next to calibre designation 32-40. Designed by John Browning the 1894 was ‘The Cowboy’ rifle widely used across the US and Europe as well as in countless cowboy films since. A strong and accurate design the ‘94’s smaller frame was designed to fire lower powered pistol rounds but could accommodate the more powerful 32-40” and later 30-30” deer rounds making it a popular hunting and self defence arm. One of the classic rifle designs of all time it is still in production to this day and as popular as ever with just these .32-40’s being available as off ticket collectors items in the UK. In very good condition with near mint bore, very good mechanics and tight lock up, much original blue to the barrel and a nice sharp stock. A very nice example of a classic Browning designed Winchester rifle.
