An exceptional volunteer .577/450” MkII Martini Henry service rifle by Field of Birmingham with original Field muzzle cap. Plain MkII action with large cocking indicator to the right side is struck with Victorian Birmingham commercial proof marks and retains almost all of its original deep blue finish. Figured ‘Tiger Strip’ walnut stock with regulation pattern iron furniture and pin retained MkII forend. Henry rifled barrel with ladder rear sight graduated to 1000 yards is signed to the knox form FIELD RIFLE Co. BIRMINGHAM and is struck with Birmingham proof marks. Complete with its original plated steel muzzle protector of military pattern signed FIELD RIFLE Co. BIRMINGHAM. A best quality Martini of regulation pattern made by one of the most famous of the Birmingham military rifle manufacturers for sale to a volunteer soldier or officer wanting a good quality rifle to use in service and at the popular rifle shooting matches of the time, that were held all over the country and most famously at the NRA ranges at Wimbledon and later Bisley. In fine condition with mint bore and excellent mechanics, nice sharp tiger strip stock and almost all of its original deep blue finish with the scarce manufacturer supplied muzzle cap. A fine rifle.
